About

H.Y. (“Hsin-Yi”) Hanna is an award-winning mystery and suspense writer and the author of the bestselling Oxford Tearoom Mysteries and the BEWITCHED BY CHOCOLATE Mysteries. She has also written romantic suspense and sweet romance, as well as a children’s middle-grade mystery series.

Hsin-Yi graduated from Oxford University with a BA and MA in Biological Sciences and a Master of Studies in Social Anthropology. She tried her hand at a variety of jobs, before returning to her first love: writing. She worked as a freelance journalist for several years, with articles and short stories published in the UK, Australia and NZ, and has won awards for her novels, poetry, short stories and journalism.

A globe-trotter all her life, Hsin-Yi grew up in many different countries and has lived in a variety of cultures, from Dubai to Sydney, London to New Jersey, but is now happily settled in Perth, Western Australia, with her husband and a rescue kitty named Muesli – who stars in her Oxford Tearoom Mystery series.

You can also learn more about her on the Meet the Author (for Kids) page of the Big Honey Dog Mysteries website. This is her middle grade mystery series inspired by her Great Dane, Honey – who has now sadly gone to the Rainbow Bridge but lives on in the books and children’s imaginations around the world.

More About Me From The Blog...

Baby steps on my 'Dream Cottage Garden'...

In the last few weeks – when I haven’t been writing – I’ve been spending every spare moment outside, busily trying to create my “Dream Cottage Garden”!

It’s been a steep learning curve and I’ve spent hours online, reading all about annuals vs perennials, “deep shade” vs “part-sun”, fertilisers, fish emulsion and foliage feeds… not [...]

Operation Dream Cottage Garden... begins!

OMG – I’ve just discovered gardening… and I think I’m in love!! (Is this another symptom of middle age setting in?? ;-) )

I was so touched to receive some wonderful gifts from my readers recently – it was like Christmas all over again!

First, there was the beautiful “fan art” created by Patrick Wirbeleit in Germany, who sent me his paper-cut illustration of the “Little Stables Tearoom” from my Oxford Tearoom Mysteries

Look [...]

Q&A: "Do you plot your books from start to finish, and how?"

(** This is where I answer questions that readers send me!)

Oh, I’m definitely a plotter and not a pantser! (For those who aren’t familiar with the terms, writers tend to fall into 2 camps: Plotters and Pantsers, with the latter being those who “write by the seat of their pants” ;-) ) – [...]

Interview with H.Y. Hanna

Interview Q&A with Hsin-Yi: Q. Tell me about yourself and how you became a writer.

A. Well, I’d have to start with the cliché of always wanting to be a writer, from the time I was a little girl! I was a complete bookworm and the only thing better than reading a book, in [...]

Blog reboot - and a little about me!

Well, after a long hiatus, I thought it might be good to restart my blog again – as a place to share some behind-the-scenes stuff about my books, answers to reader questions, fun things I’ve done & places I’ve been – oh, and some cute pet photos too, of course! :-)

My first name is [...]
